Common questions

Before requesting a dive.

What kinds of items can be recovered?

Submit details about the item, last known location, estimated depth, and access. Common requests may involve personal items, anchors, or equipment, but acceptance depends on ownership, site conditions, safe limits, and whether the request fits the business’s capabilities.

Can you search if I do not know the exact location?

You can still submit a request. Describe the smallest area you can identify and how certain you are. A larger or uncertain search area may affect feasibility, time, and cost, and no search can guarantee recovery.

What are the depth limitations?

The maximum service depth is 100 feet. Actual working depth may be lower depending on access, visibility, temperature, water conditions, equipment, and other safety factors. Provide the best estimate you have—even “unknown”—with your request.

Do you work on moorings and buoys?

Mooring and buoy needs can be submitted for review. Describe the system, the observed problem, known depth, and whether the site is accessible from shore, dock, or boat. Specific work is accepted only after its requirements are evaluated.

Can you perform underwater inspections?

Visual inspection requests are welcome. Explain what needs to be observed and whether you need photos or video. An underwater visual review is not an engineering inspection, code certification, or guarantee about hidden conditions.

Can you provide underwater photography or video?

You may request underwater photos or video for documentation. Visibility, lighting, depth, access, and safe positioning affect what can be captured. Confirm the intended use in the request.

What about private docks and property access?

The customer must have authority to request the work and arrange lawful access. Include gate, parking, dock, shoreline, marina, or boat-access details. Permission may need to be confirmed before scheduling.

How are pricing and estimates handled?

The minimum charge is $450 and includes the first hour for jobs reached by land. Additional time starts at $125 per hour, with the final rate depending on conditions and job requirements. Preparation work, special access arrangements, boat fees, and travel based on distance from Chelan are additional. The request will be reviewed so these costs can be discussed before scheduling.

What affects whether an item can be recovered?

Location accuracy, elapsed time, currents, visibility, depth, temperature, bottom material, vegetation, entanglement, access, and hazards can all affect a search. Recovery is never guaranteed.

What area do you serve?

Rusty Chain Dive Services serves Chelan County and is based in Chelan, Washington. Travel cost increases with distance from Chelan. Submit the exact location so access and travel can be included in the estimate.

How does scheduling work?

Include a preferred date, but do not treat it as confirmed. Scheduling depends on availability, weather, water conditions, site access, and whether the job is accepted after review.
